Blade Runner :: Art
Blade Runner The plot of the movie ââ¬Å"Blade Runnerâ⬠becomes unrevealed till the end of the movie. Many assumptions about the plot and the final of the movie appear in the spectatorââ¬â¢s mind, but not one of these assumptions lasts long. Numerous deceptions in the plot grip the interest of the audience and contribute for the continuing interest to the movie eighteen years after its creation. The main character in the movie is Deckard- the Blade Runner. He is called for a special mission after his retirement, to ââ¬Å"air upâ⬠four replicants who have shown flaws and have killed people. There are many arguments and deceptions in the plot that reveal the possibility Deckard to be a replicant. Roy is the other leading character of the movie. He appears to be the leader of the replicants- the strongest and the smartest. Roy kills his creator Tyrell. The effect of his actions fulfils the expectation of the spectator for a ruthless machine. The main deception in the plot is also the main cause that holds the identity of the blade razor à Deckard, unrevealed through the continuance of the movie. The first assumption that comes to the mind is that Deckard is not a replicant because he is the one that Bryant calls to hunt replicants. But there also appears the question what makes him the most proper to oppose the consummate replicants. The possibility Deckard to be a replicant makes him the worthiest person for the assignment. Deckard recommends Holden who is also a replicant assuming the words of Bryant -ââ¬Å"He can bread okay as long as no one unplugs himâ⬠. In most of the chapters Deckard acts as a human being. He has feelings for Rachael, and later in the movie he is the one that shows her how to behave in action for which she is not programmed for. Because Rachael saves his life Deckard doesnââ¬â¢t accept her like a replicant, which he has to hunt. On the other side if Deckard was a replicant older product ion than Zhora, he shouldnââ¬â¢t be smarter than Zhora and to recognize her because of sexual context. The effect of deception in the plot about Deckardââ¬â¢s identity awakes the imagination of the spectators and keeps interest in the plot. Another form of deception in the plot is Royââ¬â¢s behavior at the final of the movie. Roy who killed Tyrell, Sebastian, and the man in the eye laboratory with unusual enjoyment, shows weakness and helps Deckard to survive.

Career and Philanthropic Work of Magic Johnson
Earvin ââ¬Å"Magicâ⬠Johnson is not only amongst the all-time greatest basketball players, but he is also a well-respected philanthropist. This essay discusses his early career, major career achievements, being diagnosed with AIDS, and philanthropic work. Magic Johnsonââ¬â¢s glorious basketball career began as a student at the Michigan State University. He led the team to a National Championship title in 1979. Johnsonââ¬â¢s skill qualified him to play at the National Basketball Association (NBA). While playing with the Lakers, the team won five NBA championships and participated in nine NBA finals. He was honored by being named the NBA Most Valuable Player three times. Johnson also played on the U. S. A. Olympic team that won the gold medal in the year 1992. In 2002, he was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. He was particularly known for his excellent passing skills. Johnsonââ¬â¢s match winning performance in the 1980 NBA finals is an integral part of basketball history. He received several honors including being selected as a member of the All-Time team for NBAââ¬â¢s 50th anniversary in 1997 (NBA Encyclopedia). On October 25, 1991, his doctors told Johnson that he had the HIV virus. Says Johnson, ââ¬Å"That was the hardest day of my life. After I got myself off the ground, I decided to have a positive attitude (NBA Legend).â⬠Two weeks later, on November 7, 1991, Johnson announced to the world at a press conference organized by the Lakers about his affliction. At the conference, he said that he would not give up to the disease easily and would battle it. He announced that he would become a spokesman about HIV. As the doctors had advised him not to play basketball any longer, Johnson announced his retirement from basketball. Johnson decided that he would use his fame and his status as an icon for millions of people to educate the youth about HIV. One month after his diagnosis, he started the Magic Johnson Foundation. According to a research conducted by Pollock (426), the revelation of Magic Johnson had changed the attitude of people about AIDS and influenced them to alter their behavior in order to avoid the virus. The foundation has raised millions of dollars to build four modern clinics for people afflicted with AIDS. Free HIV/AIDS testing has been provided to approximately 38,000 people across America through the ââ¬Å"I Stand with Magicâ⬠program. The foundation has helped nearly 280,000 people understand the risk factors of contacting HIV. The foundation also provides educational and medical help to children and young adults. The foundation has opened 20 Community Empowerment Centers in underserved communities (Magic Johnson Foundations). When Hurricane Katrina occurred, the foundation partnered with various grocery and drugstores, provided prescriptions and groceries to victims. The renowned basketball player also stated that he would find ways to generate jobs to those who have been displaced by Katrina (Tucker 1). Magic Johnson received the USA Todayââ¬â¢s National Hero Award for his contribution to the society through the Magic Johnson Foundation. Magic Johnson is also an active businessman. He runs a company called Magic Johnson Enterprises (MJE). MJE has several businesses in its portfolio, which include Canyon-Johnson Urban Fund, SodexhoMagic, Aetna, and BestBuy, 30 Burger King restaurants, Magic Johnson Theaters, and a dozen sports centers. The company aims to provide products and services to ethnically diverse communities and minorities (Earvin ââ¬Å"Magicâ⬠Johnson Biography). Even after 17 years of being diagnosed with HIV, he has not developed AIDS. Magic Johnson can be called a self-made success story and a great sportsman and social worker who has selflessly used his iconic status to help countless people lead a better life. Comparison of Toadstool Wood and Snowy Wood - 888 Words
ââ¬ËThe toadstool woodââ¬â¢ describes a woodland at twilight. Everything is quiet and dark. Reeves describes the woods as if it is hoary and inactive, I know this because in the poem he says ââ¬Ëmouldyââ¬â¢. He also says ââ¬Ëarching sprays of brambleââ¬â¢ which means there would be alot of cultivation as well in the wood. On the other the poem, ââ¬Ëstopping by Woods on a snowy eveningââ¬â¢ has the setting of a man on horse back stopping by the woods for a rest when he is on a long journey. Frost describes these woods as if it is glacial and gloomy, I know this because in the poem he says ââ¬ËThe darkest evening of the yearââ¬â¢. This would also means that it is frightening. There are many common things between these two poems. Firstly both poems scenes are set in theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The narrator knows the owner of the woods and knows where he lives but then he says, ââ¬Ëhe will not see me stopping hereââ¬â¢. Why will the owner of the woods not see the narrator stopping by? Then the narrator says ââ¬Ëmy little horse must think it queer, to stop without a farmhouse nearââ¬â¢, so that means his horse thinks it is very odd, to stop when there is no farmhouse near. So why did the narrator stop then? This is another example of the mystery the poem evokes. The author describes the woods as if it is very scary. I know this because he says ââ¬Ëthe woods are lovely, dark and deepââ¬â¢. I think he was being sarcastic when he said ââ¬Ëlovelyââ¬â¢. ââ¬ËDark and deepââ¬â¢ would mean that the woods had a lack of light and that it was very big and you could get lost in it. In this poem the narrator still has miles to travel in his journey because on the last two lines he says ââ¬Ëand miles to go before I sleepââ¬â¢. Where is the narratorââ¬â¢s destination? This poem has an AABA rhyme scheme. Frost has added alliteration ââ¬Ëdark and deepââ¬â¢ and he uses onomatopoeia ââ¬Ëthe only other soundââ¬â¢s the sweep, of easy wind and downy flake.ââ¬â¢ Overall this poem created a more powerful sense of mystery than the toadstool wood, which means it has created more suspense. I can see more mystery in this poem other than toadstool wood. I have given examples. Both poems employ striking imagery to create a powerful sense of place. Reeves describes the toadstool wood as an isolated quite place,
